Jewelry to a woman is a statement. It says a lot about how a woman is feeling, who she is and who she wants to be. I believe, one of the best ways to express all of these things and more is to have truly unique, one of a kind pieces. Unfortunately it's very costly and almost impossible to buy completely unique pieces. So I suggest creating your own jewelry. It doesn't have to look tacky, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg. Here are a few tips and ideas for creating your own jewelry.
Etching
A great technique for making personalized jewelry is the art of etching. There are many different ways to go about this process, such as using chemical compounds or simply using rolling plates and hammers. The patterns that you can make with etching are limitless.
Rope Jewelry
A great ingredient for creating jewelry is rope. Try creating a chain or knotted necklace from rope. You can color and stiffen it to make it a fun, unique piece. You can use the same techniques for making bracelets or anklets. Tip: to stiffen your rope jewelry, all you have to do is dip and cover the rope in white glue. The white color will go away after time. Be sure to thin out the glue with a little bit of water. If you want to color the rope you can use a little bit of acrylic art paint.
Ear-Rings
Do you have a pair of earrings that you love, but maybe they've always bothered your ears or maybe they've become damaged and you can't wear them as a pair anymore? Try converting them into rings. This technique doesn't work well for simple hoops but works best for those pieces that have dangling pieces.
Crochet Jewelry
Ever considered crocheting jewelry pieces? This is a great way to truly create unique pieces. Although, if you don't know how to crochet, it could become a big ordeal to learn how just to make jewelry, but well worth it. Get creative with it. Find a picture of a piece of jewelry you admire and model a crochet piece after it. Chances are, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
Blank Pieces
Blank pieces are those pieces that have a blank slate on them. These are great as they can be used as a canvass of sorts. Take a belt-buckle blank and buy one of those miniature license plates that are used for kids bikes. Attach the license plate to the belt-buckle. Now you have a personalized belt. You can also find ring blanks, leather bracelet blanks, blank chains, etc... Use these pieces of jewelry to attach little mementos and nick-knacks.
If you truly want to stand out, be one of a kind and make a statement with your jewelry then give a try at becoming your own jeweler. Making your own jewelry is also a great creative outlet and many who do it find it to be a great stress reliever.
