Top Tips For Perfume Lovers
Many people just probably take it for granted they know what not to do with their fragrances, however, in all likelihood, the majority of those people are making the same mistakes over and over again. Therefore, here are a few handy dos and don’ts to keep you on the straight and narrow as far as wearing perfume goes:
Perfume Dos
Build up a collection of different perfumes
It is good to have a variety of fragrances you can use for different occasions, as well as times of the year. For instance a perfume you might wear to work should differ from that you wear on a night out. Likewise you should wear a different fragrance on a cold, chilly evening to that you would wear on a warm summer’s day.
Be aware of how strong your perfume is
It’s really important to make sure you’re not overpowering everyone you meet with your strong, heady perfume. Therefore, be sure to know how long your perfume tends to last for, the longer it lasts will give you an idea of how strong it is. If it stays around for a long time, try spraying your clothes the night before, instead of in the morning of wearing them.
What to do if you wear a weaker perfume
If your perfume does not tend to last very long, it’s worthwhile investing in the perfume’s accompaniments, i.e. the shower gel and the body cream. Using these, in addition to the actual fragrance will ensure the scents lingers. You should also aim to make good use of your pulse points, i.e. wrists, behind the ears and in the hollow of your neck.
What to wear on date nights
Obviously you will want to put forward the best impression when out on a date, as will your date. You should therefore aim to wear warmer fragrances, i.e. with a hint of spice, instead of cooler perfumes, i.e. light and flowery.
Perfume Don’ts
Storage nightmares
It is so important to make sure your perfumes are stored correctly, otherwise you risk them going off in some way. For instance they may start having a musty type smell or even become sharper than usual, which isn’t ideal. Storing them under hot lights is a definite no no and will result in them ‘going off’. Perfumes need to be kept cool. Keeping them at room temperature is OK, however; generally the cooler the better, as this will ensure the scent of the perfume lasts longer.
Spraying perfume on hair
So many people do this because it means fragrance is released at every swish of hair that occurs. However, spraying perfume on your hair is like spraying alcohol on it, which you wouldn’t do. At least you hopefully wouldn’t do it because alcohol damages hair. If you want your hair to release fragrance, try spraying the perfume on to your hairbrush instead and then brush your hair; this will have the same effect.
On important occasions
A lot of women make the mistake of wearing too strong or too sensuous a perfume on their wedding day. This is a mistake because it will be overpowering and just too heavy-duty for such an occasion. You should try to aim for lighter scents instead, i.e. rose or jasmine based.
The same theory goes for attending interviews. You should never ever wear an overpowering scent when being interviewed. Nor should you spray yourself directly before going into an interview, since this will distract your interviewer and could lead to an adverse effect, such as sneezing or headaches.
