Tips on applying a Blush perfectly
Since ancient times blush has been one of the most important makeup entity in a woman's kit. There were times when ladies used to use lipsticks for the purpose of blush. However, with all the advancements, we now have blushes of different varieties, colors and brands that can work quite well in getting that wonderful color on your cheeks.
If you are amongst those who still rely on using your lipsticks as blush, then you must give regular blushes a try as our cheeks usually have higher skin temperature and they may separate the lipstick from your foundation base, making it look blotchy on your cheeks. One rule of thumb is that even if your blush and lipstick don't have the same shade, they should belong to the same color group at the least.
Blush must always and only be applied on the apple of your cheeks. To figure out the apple of your cheeks, you can simply smile broadly and notice the uplifted area of your cheeks. This is the place where a blush must be applied.
A good blush is the one that can complement your foundation or natural skin tone. If you have a beige complexion then soft pink would definitely not look natural, and would rather look OTT. So, always seek expert's advice in deciding your skin tone and the color and texture of blush you need.
Blushes as of now are available in two textures: Powder and Cream
Usage of cream blush on tinted moisturizer (without foundation) can give the most basic form of the desired result. Powder blush on the other hand, can work well over foundation and powder application on the face.
Below are certain tips that can be kept in mind while applying cream and powder blush on your cheeks:
- Always apply uniform amount of foundation and powder to give your face a smooth texture, before applying powder blush. This will prevent the blush from getting blotchy.
- People with larger pores on their cheeks might face the problem of powder blush getting settled into those pores. You should use cream-to-powder foundation to avoid this.
- While applying blush, always put the least possible pressure.
- Apply more blush only at the places where you want the color to be intense.
- If you have a light complexion, go for light blushes only. The darker ones look good only on tanned or dark-toned skins.
- While shading the forehead, don't reload the brush and only apply what is left on the brush.
- Choose for glittery and glossy blush only if you have an absolutely perfect complexion. The same rule applies to bronzers as well. Also, you can not use these products to build contours.
- Try to minimize the use of finger while blending the blush as this might ruin your foundation and base.
- While applying cream blush (without foundation), you can use your ring finger and then blend with a wedge shaped sponge.
- In order to achieve a natural look, you can coat another level of face powder over your blush. This will give your face a natural looking flush.
When it comes to choosing the color of the blush, many women commonly go for browns, pinks or peach colors, usually because these colors can work great for generally all skin tones. Well, to some extent this choice is perfect, while your prepare yourself for the day wear, as these colors give you a naturally fresh look. But, it may be a bit off for evening wear. The night light usually has a tendency to swallow colors and hence you need to choose a particular radiance, which might be lacking in the common flesh and brown tones.
