How many times have you looked at a photograph of some one close to you and noticed that they are not smiling properly, or not smiling at all? Very often the reason is not that they are just shy or having an 'off day' it is rather that they are self conscious about their smile, or they have a problem with their teeth. It may be that they have irregular teeth, gaps in their teeth which can be naturally occurring or where teeth have been lost due to accident or dental disease, or more simply discoloured teeth. Whatever the cause it can have a very impact on their self esteem and very often the problems can be rectified by visiting a good professional dentist.
Dentistry and cosmetic dentistry in particular, has come on in leaps and bounds and they are able to almost perform miracles today. Overbites and crooked teeth can be moved to create a perfect smile and boost the confidence of a previously self conscious person. In days gone by, it was only the children of people who could afford to take them to the orthodontist at a relatively early age, that were able to undergo the `tooth straightening` process. Today it can be carried out on adults, it does mean having to wear braces and feel a little foolish for a while, but the end result is worth it. Where false teeth on plates were the only option not too long ago when someone had teeth missing, today dentists can offer more palatable options such as bridges and implants.
Of course the most easily overcome problem today is tooth discolouration. A range of options and products are available to rectify something that affects everyone to some degree. Drinks such as tea and coffee are known to stain teeth as are some antibiotics and, an obvious one, smoking. Teeth whitening products bought over the counter will not be as concentrated as the products that are applied in professional cosmetic dentistry practices and they can be difficult to apply and may not work. Even at low concentrations, the peroxide used in the over the counter products, to bleach the teeth, could injure surrounding tissues if not applied properly and the instructions not followed correctly.
The alternative is to go to a dentist able to carry out cosmetic procedures. They are bound to advise patients of the best options available to correct their problem and make them aware of the risks and side effects that are associated with have a tooth whitening procedure carried out. Professional tooth whitening will be more expensive than over the counter products, but it will be a more effective treatment. Whatever the problem there is bound to be a way of dealing with it and open the way to what every one would love to have 'The Perfect Smile'.
