When it comes to shifting your household from one location
to another, it requires a great deal of planning and organization. You have to
keep in mind your new home, the packing and moving company you'd like to
consider, and in many times, the list of things you'd want to keep in storage house.
According to a survey, around 15% of people move every year just in the U.S. Around 6.7 million people moved in the U.S. in year 2010; a number that is around 4 times the population of Manhattan. With the current globalization of work, we can definitely expect this number to grow more in coming years.
Most of your job is done if you can get a good packing and
moving company. Even though getting a good one requires lots of work. You need to check the ones suitable for your movement (local or interstate!), get feedback from people who have used the latest packing and moving services, and compare the ratings, discounts and deals etc.
However, there are certain things you must keep in mind to do on your own. My dad had always had a transferable job and in a span of 25 years, we moved some 7-8 times to different locations. Apart from consciously planning on what to keep and how to pack, I learnt a lot of lessons on things you must not do in order to make your transition smooth and hassle free. Some of these lessons were learnt from the way I saw a good packing and moving company works, whereas others were learnt the hard way after witnessing the damage done.

Let us have a look below at some of the things not to do while packing for home moving:
1) While packing your clothes, always check for the clothes
that no longer fit you or you haven't wore them since past 10-15 years or so.
Chances are that you wouldn't wear them either, if your mind has already
discarded them years back. Throw them off or donate them.
2) If you have wooden bed boxes, it is safe to keep them
empty. You might think them to be nice storage area to keep your clothes and
stuffs, but in all the lifting and moving, chances are that the weight of those
boxes may become an overhead. It is better to keep things in separate cardboard
boxes, which don't cost much.
3) While filling the TV cabinets, only stuff all your soft
toys and cushions inside. Never put anything fragile or breakable, even if
its a glass frame you think can stay safe in between two teddy bears. In all
the packing, lifting and moving, even a small jerk can prove fatal for your
lovely glass frame. It is safe to use newspapers and bubble wraps to take care
of your fragile belongings. I usually use cabinets to take care of my
artificial flowers. This way my flowers don't bend or get disfigured and can
easily be transported.
