Moving to a new city can be extremely exciting and draining at the same time. If you are planning to move from one end of your country to the other end , then it might become an overwhelming experience getting all your huge household stuffs packed and loaded in the truck, and then getting them unloaded and unpacked at the new destination followed by arranging them in your new home.
From my experience, I've seen that usually the cost of moving goes a bit higher than general estimate because of all the additional costs that crop up during the whole transition.

Using an online cost calculator can help you get an almost accurate estimate. When we moved our household stuffs last time around 2 years back, apart from incurring additional expenses in moving our stuffs, we also had to plan the cost of moving our vehicle.
One of the most popular and cost effective ways to transport a vehicle is through train (provided that your current and new cities are connected via train network). The second most popular way of transporting a vehicle is via road transport. You get your vehicle loaded in a truck, secure it well and send it off.
Here are few tips that can help you in having a smooth and hassle-free transition of your car (bike or truck!) to your new home:
1) Before shipment, ensure that your car is thoroughly clean from inside (and outside!). Lower or remove the car antennas. It is advisable to take off any of the removable car fixtures like removable bonnet mirrors etc. Also remove the portable CD players and radios from the car. You should carry them with you in your luggage.
2) If there is any existing crack in your car's mirror, or window glass, or a dent above your car's trunk, you need to notify the same beforehand in the pre-shipping declaration.
3) Ensure that you leave a pair of car keys with the shipper, or else your shipper might get stuck in case of any complications. You can not blame the shipping company for any damage that happens to your car in that case.
4) Turn off the car alarms and provide full set of detailed instructions to your shipper on how to start a car alarm and disarm the same. Failing to do so might make your car create a mess in between the transition, making the battery dead by the time your car reaches the destination. Again, you can not blame your shipper for this.
5) Remove any luggage carriers from above your car to ease up the handling, loading and shipping of the car by the movers.
6) If your current and new locations have extreme contrasts in climatic conditions, then you should check whether your car can handle this change or not. If your current location has hot or normal temperature in general, and your new destination has temperature below freezing point, you must consider prepping up your car for the change. Install an engine heater to have your car up and running at the moment it gets unloaded at the new destination, so that you can simply drive it to your home. Otherwise you might have to end up spending few more bucks getting a tow truck to carry your car home.
I hope the above mentioned tips help you in planning your vehicle's transition properly. Apart from the these tips, it is also advisable to check the vehicle rules and regulations at your new place, so that you can prepare beforehand accordingly.
